A London P.A. cable announces the deaths of Mr. William Blackwood, the publisher, and Sir Reginald Lister (British Minister at Tangier).
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. •James Erskine will regret to hoar of t.ic death of their second, son, Thomas, wliich occurred yesterday afternoon, at the early age of 32 years. Deceased was well known in Gisborne, having been practically born and bred 1,1 f' lo Poverty Bay district. He was of a bright and cheerful disposition, and his early demise will he mourned hy a wide circle of'acquaintances.
News has been received in "Wellington (says a. P.A. wire) of the death at Port Elizabeth, South Africa, of Mr •1. Iv. Logan, formerly Superintendent oi Telegraphs in New Zealand, aged Uf) years. Mr Logan joined the service in .18(15, and was appointed Superintendent in 1894. He received the Imperial Service Order in 1909. and shortly afterwards retired. A London P.A. cable announces the death of Lord Furness, formerly Sir Christopher Furness, who was created first Baron of Grantlev in 1910. For many years he represented Hartlepool in the Libera’ interests. He was a wealthy shipowner and shipbuilder, being head of the “Furness” line of steamers, and also Messrs Furness, Withy and Co., shipbuilders, besides having large interests in iron works and collieries and an estate of 30,000 acres.
'ldle Prime Minister, who left Wellington by the Main Trunk express on Sunday night, left the train at Otahuhu yesterday afternoon proceeding thence to his house at- 31 an go re. There he intends to rest to-day. On Wednesday he may visit the Waikato show at Hamilton, but this is at present uncertain. (Should he do so.Mr Massey will attend at the Minister’s room. Government Buildings, on Thursday and Friday for the transaction of public business, reception of deputations etc. The Reform League arid residents of Pukekohe will entertain the Prime Minister at a banquet at that centre next Saturday night. Nextweek Mr Massey will again be in Auckland. On Monday night he will be the guest of his fellow-members of the Auckland Club at dinner. On Tuesday night- he will be tendered a public reception at the Town Hall by the citizens of Auckland. Mr M-a.ssev will be present on Wednesday at the formal opening of the new Post Office.—P, A. /
