THE ARMY HOME.
O FFICER. TO VISIT GISBORNE SOON.
THE SCOPE OF THE INSTITUTION
Not a- great deal has been heard of late regarding the rescue and maternity home which the Salvation Army proposes to establish in Gisborne, but the movement is yet afoot nnd ; will materialise in the near future. It is but- ono leaf from the bulky book of social improvements, etc., which the Army has in. hand. While in Wellington last week Adjutant Marshall, after the conclusion of-the district officers' Council, made inquiries'’ on the subject and learned that the matter has been receiving attention. Brigadier Bray. the Army's social specialist, will visit Gisborne in a week or twq in regard to the establishment of the home. Apropos of the objections which were lodged when the suggestion of a rescue home was made at the time of Commissioner Richard’s visit hero, it is interesting to note'that the probability, a "Times” reporter vns given to understand, is that the homo will be on a modified' scale, in that : t will cater for no particular class, but will embrace several branches of soria] regeneration work. In addition, the local residential quarters will probably bo included in the building, so that the officer in charge will always ho on hand. Liberal local financial support is assured, appreciable donations having already been promised hv well-known citizens.
