RIFLE SHOOTING.
NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] WANGANUI, December 29. The North Island Championship Rifle Meeting was concluded on Saturday, when a troublesome wind was blowing. Private Loveday, of the 9th Regiment, headed the aggregate, winning the champion belt, medal and £B. His score was 289. This is the third year in succession in which the belt has been carried oil by a youth. Last year it was King (Wanganui), and the previous year Hunt (Wellington). This is the fifth occasion in the last year or so that Loveday has topped the aggregate list. He is a most promising shot. The Manawatu Match was won by McNeill (Te Kapua), who scored 47, and took £3. R. Hunt (Suburban) was second. The following took £1 each with a score of 46: Melyor (Suburbs), Loveday (9th Regiment), Franklyn (Weber), Banks (Kimbolton), and Thomas (Petone). In snap shooting Deihl (Dannevirke) took £2, Mclvor and Hun (Suburbs) £l. In the cover match, seven shots at 300 yds, Ballinger and Hartwell tied with seven hits each and took 35s apiece. The Wanganui Rifle Club won the team’s match.
