THE BIG MAORI GATHERING.

TO-DAY’S OPENING CEREMONY

The great hui at Manutuke will be officially opened to-day in the presence of lion. W. H. Herries, Native Minister, Dr. Pomare, Native representative in the Executive, His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Pettie), Sir James Carroll and Lady Carroll, Hon. A. T. Ngata and Mrs Ngata. A large number of representative citizens and officials have also been invited, and it is certain that there will be a large attendance of the Gisborne public. The opening of the hui was originally fixed for 11 a.m., but it will probably be some time later before the ceremony takes place.
