The Duke of Marlborough presided over the British Women’s Immigration Association, and stated that something like 300 women emigrated from Britain last year and the exodus from the countryside was causing statesmen anxiety. Sir Joseph Ward said New Zealand could take 10,000 of the surplus women of Britain, and all were certain of-good employment.
