Inspector O’Donovan arrived from the south on fils periodical visit yesterday morning and proceeded to Alotu. He will probably return to Gisborne to-day.
All- Boyd Garlick, the newly ' ap- >■ pointed Government instructor of physical culture, has written the Hawke’s Bay Education Board asking for a conference with the school inspectors and the Board members on a convenient date.
On ills wrt.V front England to New Zealand, the Hon. James Allen will spend about a fortnight in Canadian centres, looking into questions of education and other matters. He is due lit Auckland from Vancouver early in June.

Mr G. F. Powell has been appointed stock agent for the Tokomaru Bay Farmers’ Co-operative Association, being selected out of 20 applicants. Mr Powell leaves to-day for Tolago Bay t-o hold the firm's first horse sale.
Albert Trott, the well-known cricketer. who acted as coach in Hawke’s Hav some years ago, has been seriously ill in England, but at latest advice was recovering. He had been suffering from gastritis, but he was not expected to have to remain at St. Mary’s Hospital more than two or three weeks, and there is no reason to think that he will not be able to undertake his duties as umpire in first-class cricket during the forthcoming season. Sir Jas. Carroll is indisposed as the result of a chill contracted on a recent motor trip.
Mr L. O’Brien, of the staff of the Union Bank of Australia, left by the Takapuna last evening for Hastings, on transfer. Prior to his departure, a largo number of Mr O’Brien’s friends 7 met "him and presented him with a ' set of military hair-brushes and pipes. Mr O’Brien, during his three years residence in Oisborno, wa-s cxtiGlUGlJ popular, and will he missed in many quarters. He was Measurer to the Gisborne Rowing Club and was frequently on the tennis courts, while as a clubman his absence will bo felt. He was far Swelled last evening by a good iiianv friends.
