AIR KIRK TO BE ASKED TO STAND FOR MAYOR. DEARTH OF ASPIRANTS FOR COUNCILLORSHIPS.
A petition was in circulation yesterday asking Mr J. R. Kirk to stand for the Mayoralty. So far only the three Labor candi-
dates and the Independent Laboritc have announced themselves for seats on the Council. It was reported iir town yesterday that Mr T. G. Lawless would again be a candidate for councillor. Air A. S. Richards-is stated to be a "likely aspirant for a scat 011 the Council. . . ~ - Off dit, that quite a number of business people were asked by the Labor party to stand for seats. Mr Sheridan’s friends, are reported to be getting active in connection with his candidature for Mayor. A report was current yesterday that Air AV. Lissant Clayton will he asked to offer his services to the borough as a Councillor. / . In usually well-informed circles .t is stated that Cr. Collins will be asked fo -“stand for Alayor on this occasion. ■ The time for the reception of names for enrolment on the municipal roll closed at 5 p.m. yesterday and ’t is estimated that a very large nurnoer of electors will figure on the supplementary roll. The Labor Party members and other persons have put in a good deal or assiduous work canvassing for names. Of members .of the present .^ouuciCr. Hepburn. Cr. Smith, Cr. AA ade, and Cr.
