THE INCREASE OF ARMAMENTS. HAS IT BEEN BROUGHT ABOUT BY TRICKERY ? [UNITED PRESS ASSOCUTION-COPTJTaUC/J ' (Received April 20. 5.5 p.m.) BERLIN, April 19. In the Reichstag Doctor Liebknecht, a. Socialist, stated that 'Krupp’s and the manufacturers of the Mauser rifles had l resorted to illicit methods of inducing leading organs of the French press to create anti-German sentiment with the object of facilitating the increase of German armaments. ; Ho also accused Krapps of secretly corrupting officers and officials of the Prussian War Office to secure early information of contracts a*id an insight into the offers of competing firms. Dr. Liebknecht also stated that several persons in prominent positions had been arrested. The War Minister replied that Liebnecht’s statements were a grave exaggeration of a matter being investigated.
He admitted that one of Krupp’s officials had bribed sergeants and others to disclose information. It was still uncertain whether any directors were involved. Ho begged the House to reserve judgment.
