ST. PATRICK’S SPORTS CLUB.
t GENERAL MEETING. SPORTS ASSOCIATION FORMED. A general meeting of tho above club was held in the Royal Hotel last evening, Rev. Father Lane president, occupying the chair. There was a large attendance of, members. The secretary’s annual report contained the following:— “In every way tlie sports were an undoubted success, tho arrangements leaving but little to be desired, and both the public and competitors were quite satisfied with the day’s sport provided. The thanks of your committee are due to those gentlemen who subscribed so generously towards the sports, and to those who assisted so ably to attain this -good ..result, and in this regard all worked so well that it would be invidious to mention any particular one, yet J cannot let the opportunity pass without mentioning Mr P. Maher, to whom I think a special vote of thanks is due for the. excellent manner in which he provided for the children’s sports. Financial-' ly the sports constitute a record, the total profit amounting to £167 13s 3d, and a most encouraging feature is that the sports, apart from donations, returned a profit of £27 Is 9d. This should be very gratifying as sports gatherings usually show a deficiency. Moreover I understand that further subscriptions are yet to be received. It was agred at one of the early meetings that a reserve fund should he formed of the profits accruing from the sports, so it will be necessary to appoint trustees and make necessary arrangements at this meeting.” Rev. Father Lane, in moving the adoption of the report and balancesheet, said he w r as very pleased indeed at the huge success of the recent sports which reflected the greatest credit On the very energetic committee which conducted them. Tn particular, ho would like to mention those gentlemen who were not Catholics, yet who worked so very hard for the success of the gathering, one of the most prominent o 3 these being Mr H. Hull. The secretaries, Messrs Henderson and Jordan, were deserving of special thanks indeed for the manner in which they worked for the success of the gathering, not a hitch occurring in all the arrangements. They were lucky indeed to have such gentlemen as secretaries. The report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted. It was decided to form a Sports Association,, to be called the Poverty Bay St. Patrick’s Sports Association, and Messrs J. H. Martin, C. Neenan and Rev. Father Lane were appointed trustees. ft was decided that tho present officers and officials be appointed until the next annual general meeting in December. A great deal of general misiness in connection with future sports meetings was dealt with, and it was decided to adjourn the meeting until Monday evening to further discuss ways and means of making future St. Patrick’s sports the premier sports of tho district.
