TERRITORIAL CASES.

SOAIE DEFAULTERS AT TE

ICAR AKA

At the Te Ivaraka Court yesterday, Bernard C. Hefferman pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to attend the recent camp held at Oringi. Defendant stated that he had only received half-a-day’s notice of the camp, and was therefore unable to get away. Sergt.-Major O. R. Henry, in evidence, produced a copy of the letter sent to defendant.

His AYorsliip remarked that the notice did seem short, ■ and imposed a fine of os, without costs, advising defendant to do his best to fulfil his obligations in regard, to training. Alalcolm J. Orr (Air Burnard) pleaded not guilty to a similar charge. Sergt.-Major Henry deposed that the customary notice to attend had been sent, to defendant, but lie had not attended the camp. To Mr Burnard: Defendant, who resided at Kanakania, had not taken the oath.

To Sen.-Sergt. Hutton: Defendant was outside the training area and was exempt from drill, but not from the annual training camp. Air Burnard contended that, on the evidence, the case must be dismissed.

His AYorsliip dismissed the case, and said that' even if defendant had been sworn in he would have been of little use at the camp, but rather an "obstruction to those who had attended drill all the year.
