rpRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM) GREYAIOUTH, June 16. A representative meeting of the Grey electors decided to ask Air. H. L. Alichell to contest the Grey seat at the by-election. [A Greymouth correspondent- says that the political atmosphere is very much disturbed, but there is not much to report just yet. Several additional men are mentioned as probable candidates. It is freely reported in Labor circles that Air. J. P. O’Regan, who is solicitor to the Federation of Labor, may carry the Federation colors instead of Mr. AYebb. Air. O’Regan represented the old Inangahua. constituency in 1893, and was successful in beating Air. Colvin for the Buffer seat in 1896. being beaten later by Air. Colvin. ’ Air. Jesse Steer, an ex-Alayor and a prominent business man and leading Freemason, may come out; and Air. T. U. Byrne, a leading supporter of the Socialistsand a solicitor, has also been mentioned. Alatters, however, will take definite shape .at the end of tlie week, but in any case an interesting contest is certain to eventuate.] Air. P. C. Webb, president of the Federation of Labor, is also announced as a candidate.
