The Chambers of Commerce Congress adopted a resolution asking the Federal Government to take immediate steps to re-establish a direct steamship service beuTeen Vancouver and Australia. Tlie mover urged the need of such, a service in order to secure the growing trade with Canada. It was a business proposition, and would soon' repay itself. Mr J, Paxton said that after spending money up to paying point- in the service Australia had quietly sat down and allowed New Zealand to develop and get the benefit of Australia’ penditure. It was a grave reflection on the Commonwealth administration, that such a thing should be allowed. New Zealand gave a contract for a limited term, but the Government was behind it, a.nd when the time came ~" it was well-known that the contract would be renewed.
