[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM] WELLINGTON, July 8
The Council met at 2.80 p.m. The Commercial Bank of Australia and New Zealand Bill was read a second time. On the motion of Mr Samuels leavo was granted Mr Earnslaw to withdraw a motion setting up a commission to inquire into the working of mines and the health of miners, this being provided for in the Mine’s Commission’s report. ■ . ~ Mr Bell gave notice to introduce the Legislative Council Bill on Wednesday. . Dr. Collins gave notice to move “That in view of the spread of smallpox in Sydney the provisions of the Public Health Act be enforced. The debate on the Address-in-Reply was continued. , , Mr Beeham urged the Government to verify the statement made in the public -nress concerniiig land aggregation. Mr Samuels who followed spoke strongly against Legislative Council reform.' He urged the Government to submit the question to the a general election before forcing the measure through Parliament. The adjournment was moved bv Mr Luke and the Council rose at 4.40.
