PREMIUM BONDS BILL.
SPECIAL COMMITTEE'S REPORT. NO MATERIAL AMENDMENT. IBY TELEGBAPH—PABLIAMENTABT GOEBESPONDE.iT] WELLINGTON, Julv 30. The Premium Bonds Bill, which is in charge of Mr Harris (Waitemata), was again under discussion in the House this afternoon. The report of the special committee to which the Bill was referred last week was J, brought op by the chairman (Mr Veitch). The report stated that the committee had taken evidence in regard to the Bill and it recommended that it be allowed to proceed as amended. , , The committee also recommended the Government to bring in amending legislation to remove all doubts as to the legality of the operations of budding societies in the Dominion. The only material amendment to the Bill made by the committee is contained in The following new clause: The Governor may. by Order-:n-Council, prescribe such regulations as he may think fit for regulating the sale and purchase of premium bonds within the Dominion, and ail contracts for the sale and purchase of suc-li bonds not made in accordance therewith shall, be null and void. In the course of the discussion that ensued. Mr Harris declared that the Premium Bonds afforded a better form of investment that the building societies. Mr Isitt said that the Bill had not got Buckley’s chance of passing. The report was ordered to lie on the table, and the Bill was set down for committal on next sitting day.
