Tulv 3°. for Marino stated today that his Department is arm igiag to send weather forecasts to fuparoa and Hicks Bay. This is all that cm* be done at present. Replying to-day to a question by Mr MacDonald, the Postmaster-General said that it was the case tint the submarine cable connecting the East Cape with the mainland was broken. Owing to the unsuitable nature of the channel along the present route, it had been considered advisable to lay a new cable of about one knot and three-quarters in length, three miles north of the present landing. The Tutanekai left Wellington on July 33 tor the puroose of laving the new cable.
