Replying to Air Duthie’s question as to the reason why mails were not despatched by the steamer Mamma from San Francisco on 22nd iust., the Minister for Internal Affairs said no mails were despatched from Homo to meet the vessel. These mails were now expected to arrive in Melbourne on loth August., and would reach New Zealand live or six days later. The Expiring Laws Continuance Bill was received from the Lower House and its committal made an Order for Tuesday next. The Marriage Amendment Bill and Settled Lands Amendment Bill were road a second time and referred to the Statutes Benson Committee. The Births and Deaths Registration Amend incut Bill was read a second time.
Further leave of absence on account of illness was granted for Mr Simpson for three weeks. The Council adjourned at 2.40 p.m. until Tuesday.
