WOUNDED SOLDIERS’ FUND
BIG GARDEN FETE TO BE HELD
As an outcome of a proposal to organise a. big garden fete to augment the patriotic funds, a meeting oi ladies willing to assist was held at Mrs. Barker’s residence, Stout Street, on Wednesday last, for the purpose of making' preliminary arrangem. ills. Those present included 'Mesdames R. Barker, R. Johnston, E. JL Mann, Reeves, Smith, J. Murphy, R. Bark r, E. 'Barker, Jex-Bla'ko, H. White, )R. U. Burke, Hoklsworth, 0. Thomas, J. W. Holdsiyorth, J. \Y. Williams, Fenwick, Snowsill, MeKeaguo, McLcrnoii, A. Seymour, Barlow, and Palgravo, and Misses Taylor, Carter, and Ba.yly. Mr. and Mrs. Barker very generously offered the use of their home and grounds in Stout Street, on the understanding that the fete was to be entirely a. public movement, and that the grounds for the purpose of the fete should be considered rather as a public garden. It was unanimously decided that a patriotic garden fete and carnival he held in Mrs. .Barker’s bungalow ground's early in December, and that the proceeds be devoted to the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. Arrangements for stalls, etc., were at once put in hand. The following is a list of the stalls, with the ladies in charge:— Work Stall; Mesdames Nolan and W. Barker, and Miss E. Taylor. Flower Stall: Mesdames E. 11. Mann and! J. W. Williams. Produce Stall: Mesdames I fr-Ids-wortli and Pattullo. Christmas Tree: Mesdames P. Barker and 11. White. 'Tea 'Pent: Mesdames T. A. Crawford, W. A. Smith, and J. B. Kirk. Oriental: Alesdames if. Johnston and Wilson, and Miss Godfrey. Handkerchief: Mrs. F. R. Ball mud Miss E. Johnston. Cake and Christmas Pudding: Airs. McLernon and Miss Bayly. Gentlemen’s Stall: Mesdames henwick and Randall Sherratt. Soft Drink and Ice Cream: Mcsdtimes AJeKeague and Snowsill. Cushion Stall: Mesdames C. Thomas and J. Blair. Bran'l’ul>: Miss A.‘Taylor. Sweet Stall: Alis-es Nolan, W illiams and Davies. Art Pottery Stall: Airs. J ex-Blake. Novelty Stall.: Airs Lissant Clayton. Doll Stall: Afesdames F. B. Barker. J. .Murphy, ami R. U. Burke. Book Stall: .Miss Gwen Pyke. Children’s Entertainment: Alesdames B.ecve and Anderson. Evening Entertainments: Airs Kennedy. Air. F. R, Ball, who was secretary for the Uncoil Carnival, has eonsmiUd to act as secretary for the fete. Air. T. Adair has undertaken to ergan.'se a, river carnival in connection with the I'ctc and to give all the assistance m his power. A gentlemen's commitL;a is to he formed at an early a P‘ I” a< ‘‘ in coniniietion with the ladies executive. A- verv little expense will he incurred, it is hoped that a handsome sum will he netted for the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund.
