GERMANS EXPECTED TO PROCLAIM A KINGDOM.
ARCHDUKE PAUL STEF ANUS AS KING. POSSIBILITIES OF MODERN WARFARE. A CURIOUS ILLUSTRATION. (Received August 0, 11.40 p.m.) - LONDON, August 6. The “Daily Chronicle” says diplomatic circles opine that Germany will proclaim a new kingdom in Poland under TLohenzollen and Hapsburg suzerainty with the Archduke Paul Stephan (an Austrian) as King of a kingdom comprising Russian-Poland, Posen and the greater part of Galicia. „ . The Archduke is a nephew of the Emperor Francis Joseph and has lived in Galicia, where he is popular. He has two daughters* married to members of the lolish aristocracy. The Poles, however, are unlikely to be deceived "By Prussian blazue after tlieir previous bitter experiences of German rule. . The Austrian General Collard, the new Governor of Galicia, is treating' the Poles harshly and has hanged thirty-four, including a woman, since his arrival. Petrograd reports as a curious illustration of the possibilities of modern warfare, during the fighting at Piasetehno, ten miles south of Warsaw, an Austrian patrol lost its way ami wandered intb the suburbs of Warsaw.
Recognising that they were helpless, they sought an opportunity to surrender,-but no Russian troops could be found. Finally the patrol entered a restaurant and asked that a messenger should he sent to the nearest Russian troops. - Meanwhile they ordered dinner until a convoy arrived and completed their capture.
