A communique states: In Carnia our detachments defending Cavallo Pass between Prevkopel and Palgrade, attacked tin; enemy trenches and drove out the Austrians, who, during tho night, attempted to retake the position. They were repulsed with considerable loss. Wc occupied some trenches in In- Pluva »mo towards Zargova ar.d Paloro and captured a quantity of munitions. The enemy yesterday renewed attacks on tho dockyard, at Monfalcone. Bombs started a new fire, which was quickly quenched. The Austrians retain only two quarters of (loriy/ia. Ten thousand residents remain. There are free fights in consequence of the impending famine Lei bach messages state that T 9,000 Italians with powerful artillery made a five hours’ attack on Gorizia to-day. A number of Austrian batteries were silenced and, after the last bayonet charge, the Austrians fell hack towards the town, leaving 2900 dead and 800 prisoners.
