A Gisborne resident recently received a. letter from thinner Walter Morrow, who left with the 2nd Reinforcements on October 21st. Gunner Morrow is now with the 3rd Ammu-nition-Column. When the troops were ordered to the Dardanelles Morrow and about 30 of his comrades volunteered to Assist the engineers. For a month they spent a hazardous time atGaba 'Pope erecting wire entanglements. etc., under lire practically all tfie- time. The letter stated thatGunner Joe Houten, another Gisborne boy, is also with the 3rd Ammunition Column. With the letter was a parcel of souvenirs, gleaned from the other troops and from the captured 'lurkish trenches. There are in .the collection coins of various countries, including Franco, India and Egypt, an Australian badge, and a lurkish cartridge. The cartridge is shorter than those of the "British pattern, the bullet heing'sharply pointed, after the German style. On the butt of the cartridge are Turkish characters, evidently the trade mark of the makers'. Two very interesting curios are Turkish shrapnel bullets, one of iron and one of lead jnonsurinjj; about o-C|UJ\rter ot iui inch through aiul must innocont-looking. The collection as a- whole is an extremely interesting one.
