Word was received in Gisborne yesterday that 'Trooper W. Stanley Coleman, of the Wellington Alounted Brigade, had been wounded in the abdomen. Trooper Coleman left Gisborne with the Main Expeditionary Force. He is a son of Air John Coleman, of Gisborne. Corporal P. Pewharrangi (slightly sick) and Private H. K. Keneti (slightly wounded), whose names appeared in the list of those sent to Malta, were Gisborne members of the Maori Contingent. 'The former, who resided at AVaiuui, is a cousin of Airs O. Ferris, and was a draughtsman for Colonol Winter, surveyor. Reneti came from Tokomaru Bay, and is a son of Jim Kennedy, now of Auckland. Lieut.-Colonel Alalone, who has been killed in action, was 56 years of age. lie was engaged in bush farming m Taranaki for many years, and took a

prominent part in the work of local 'bodies of thej district and also stood for Parliament on one occasion. He was admitted to the Bar in 1899, and founded the well-known legal firm of Malone, Anderson, and Johnston. He took a keen interest in the old volunteering service, and after holding various commands, was promoted to he Lieut.-Colonel, with command of the llth Regiment (Taranaki Rifles) in 1910. lie went to the front in command of the 10th (Wellington) Battalion. It was recently mentioned that his family held a unique record in connection with the war as he lias two sons (one severely wounded) at the Dardanelles, while a third son i.s leaving with the C’ixth Reinforcements and another has already seen service at Samoa and is now at the call of the Department for further service, while Miss Malone is nursing with the Red Cross at Home. Captain Crutch ley Saimondsnn, whose name appears in to-day’s casualty lists, was the recipient of the D.S.O. in the last birthday honors. Advice was receiv'd yesterday by Mr P. C. Rodger, of Gisborne, thathis brother Sergeant W. J Rodger, Ist Canterbury Regiment, had beer, wounded. No particulars are to hand. Sergeant W. J. Rodger had been awarded the JXG.M. within the lasttwo weeks. lie was attached to the Canterbury Regiment, which has lost very heavily since first landing. Limit. A. P. Kama:;;, whose name appears in this morning's casualty list, as seriously ill with _dysentery. is a local bov well known about Gisborne. He was probably one of the most, brilliant Rugby football players which has ever represented Povmty Bay. When the last Maori football team visited .Australia he was dose need as the india-rubber man of the- lean:, and has bu-n generally recognised as the liio.Yc brilliant mebehind Un* "'tern since Paddy Keogh set New Zeabvnd ablaze. Lieut.-Colonel Hale: T. on lota June, visited riiiebin El Korn and we- : c t-o the General Hospital and the Or’ - thalmic Hospital. I found the if - lowing New Zealanders in th© Geucr. I Hospital: Private -John Elliot (Canterbury R.C.)drrivate James Harcus (Otago Infantry), Lanoe-Corimrai F. Whittaker {.Otago Infantry). Private ’Lb L. Reynolds (Otago Infantry). Gunner W. L. Howell (convalescent from pneumonia). “In the Ophthalmic Hospital were Private John Latimer (Wellington Infantry). H. Winter -Otago Infantry). "One English sister, bright and very capable, is in charge of both hospitals, having -37 patients under her care. An Egyptian surgeon is iu attendance, giving a great deal of individual attention to the men. The sister spoke highly of him and I had the pleasure of meeting him. “With reference to their spiritual needs. ] may say that they have been visited by an Irish Roman Catholic priest from Tania and a sing song service is conducted by a Baptist- Missionary resident (Air Fairman) nearly every Sunday evening. A small local committee of residents lias been form<ml under Mr Fairman to keep the soldiers well supplied with comforts. My conclusion is that the men are better looked after, receiving more individual attention than iu t!k> larger hospitals in Cairo. I saw their dinner, which was plentiful and good. The men are happy and contented, their only complaint being their coimuement to hospital.

“On the same day 1 visited Tania and went first to the Ophthalmic Hospital. Both French and English are there. There were no New Zc-alands, Then I went to the Government General Hospital. I found the men at dinner. The food looked exceedingly nice. Both French and English wounded are there, as also French and English sisters. I found the following New Zealanders: Sapper Thomas J. Drysdale (N.Z.E.). Private Andrew, Janies Willocks (Otago Infantry). George Wilson (Otago infantry), Private R. C. Phillips (Otago Infantry), Private IVivival Murfill (Wellington Infantry). Sapper Robertson. A.B. (N.Z.E.). Trooper Robert J. Hunter Miller, A.AI.R. (4ih Waikato). “The men are visited by local residents. who take a keen interest in them, and, in my judgment, thev am weli looked after. I distributed one or two razors, etc., prayed with one or two of the men and came away, “In conclusion I think you may rest assured that the troops in question are well cared for and comfortable.-'-’
