RUGBY FOOTBALL.

SATURDAY’,? GAMES. A splendid exhibition of Rugby football resulted from the mooting of Hijrh School and Kaiti City on tho Domain on Saturday last. Kaiti-Ouy had a particularly good combination in the field and High School, though winning by 1.0 points, had to light strenuously every minute of the game. Tho first spell was evenly and stunbornly contested and ended with lienors even—no score by either side, liny during this period was characterised by fine passing, deadly tackling and brilliant line kicking. The torward teams were evenly matched and both, worked strenuously .and headily throughout. After a period of oven piav in the opening stages of the second half High School gradually gained the upper hand and vigorously assailed the Kaiti line. The defence, however, was good, and for a considerable time Kaiti kept the invaders at bay, but eventually Russell, from a short distance out in front of the posts, potted a nice goal, From the kick-out School' once more attacked and sortie strenuous play took place inside the Kaiti 20. Eventually from the quarter line the School backs once again got going and a brilliant passing bout—the ball passing through live hands—ended in Priestley scoring near the corner. Tho try at goal was a failure. The School’s next score came from that element of luck which often crops up on tho football field. The ball unexpectedly shot out from the centre to the side of tho field where' it was gathered up and MacDonald ran in unopposed and touched down almost behind the posts. After these reverses Kaiti opened out and from this time right up to the close of the game held the ascendency. High School went through many anxious moments, and for a considerable period were kept busily defending. They managed to stave off all attacks, however, and won a very fine game by 10 points to nil. Mr A. Wallace, whistled. THIRD GRADE. In the third grade matches High School and Kaiti City drew after an .even game each side scoring 3 points. West End A defeated West End B by’2-f.pnints to nil.
