LOSS OF lIALF-A-MILLI ON ON THE YEAH. NEW TARIFFS ARRANGED. United Press Association—Copyright (Received Aug. 16. 8.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Aug. 16. The loss in the Post and Telegraph Department last year was lnilf-a-mi l lion. The Postmaster-General proposes to make this up by reducing the word limit in telegraph messages from 16 words to 12 words, and increasing-the cost of messages inside the States other than in town' and suburban areas from 9d to Is and also increasing the telephone call rates.
