SOCIETY’S DANGER.
ALL-ROUND CHANGE NEEDED
LONDON, Dec. 21. “There is no present symptom that Australian life is more fraught with infinite peril for the future than the recent terrible increase in class bitterness and hatred/* said Dean Grotty of Newcastle (N.S.W.) preaching* at the Manchester Cathedral. Christians, he said, must- seek ways of spanning the cleavages threatening society. They should avoid vulgar display and the flaunting of wealth, which was a social irritant. They must, aim at securing a- new sense of responsibility in the socially privileged, otherwise their day of leadership would be ended. there must be an all-round change. It was idle to blame the workers for everything, because there was nothing in the economic conduct■ of the noor which could not lie justified by the moral conduct of the rich. It) was the duty of church societies like Toe H. to save the post-war world from possible judgment a« well as reproach. .
