NOTES AND NEWS
-It is announced that Mr D. J. Barry has disposed of Automne to Mr. Sutcliffe at a satisfactory price. Automne will remain at Auckland and has become an inmate of Mr. P. Conway’s stable. At the recent carnival in the north Automne, although short of a race, in the Xmas Handicap was amongst the first three until the concluding stages. In the Glasgow Handicap, Automne had a very bad passage and never had a. proper opportunity of showing up. Atumlad, it seems, created a very favorable impression in the north at the recent carnival. He was fourth in his first engagement; third in his second and fifth in his third, although he got blocked at the turn in a large field. He showed promise of turning out a good stayer. Not a little disappointment was felt in the Queen City of the North on account of the fact that Commendation made only one start at the recent carnival —i.o.\ in the G.N. Derby, which it won very easily. It was generally conceded that on its form Commendation would have beaten Lysander, who was lucky that Commendation was not in the field against him.
