The cricket match between Auckland and Wellington to-day, although not quite up to shield standard, produced some sparkling batting displays. Auckland won the toss and elected to bat. Bowley and Mills were the opening batsmen and McGirr and Massey were Wellington’s bowlers. Bowley had a life before reaching double figures but n few balls after he liftediMitchell who had replaced McGirr, and Hollings brought off a magnificent catch.—32-1-13. Cooper, who was next, treated Mitchell with respect. Soon after half the century, Hollings took the ball from Massey and the desired effect took place, clean howling Cooper.—(67-2-21. Mat-heson. who was next, with Postles, hit the howling all over the field. Stumps were drawn tles 50 not out, and Matheson 45 not out. the total being seven wickets for 244'.—P.A.
