SYDNEY, Jan. 8. An appeal to the public to subscribe £IOO,OOO towards the Sydney University cancer research fund which was issued a few months ago proved a splendid success. Generously hacked by the efforts of the pi ess, organisations of all descriptions, and private munificence, it officially closed at the end of the year with £119,000 in hand. Sinco then it lias been increased to £126,000, and money still coming in. With the unexpectedly large funds in hand tlie latest laboratories and apparatus are already in working order and the nucleus of a staff is at work, , Nothing non stands tn the way of launching the first big effort in the proposed wider oampaign for the treatment of tuberculosis, and tlio attempt to perfect curative methods. The chief present objective will be to improve existing methods of treatment. A committee composed of representatives of the hospitals and specialists will exhaustively collect and tabulate all the data connected with the research.—U.P.A.
