TRANSITION OF MAN
H. G. WELL'S THEORIES.
LIFE IN THE FUTURE
COMMUNITY OF GROWN-UP PEOPLE, WITH NO AGED
(Received Jan. 9, 11-5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 9
The enterprising Sunday Express lias secured a series of articles by H. G. Wells.
The first emphasises that mankind is in an intense phase of transition, and contests the argument that human nature never alters. It fastens on insurance statistics showing that the expectation of life has increased since the opening of the century by twelve years. This is only one of the latest steps in the changes progressing. Wells argues that a man has been almost as sexual as a cat with its ever recurring kittens. Man has been a family animal and is mow beginning to breed much later and conserve hits offspring, and thus render available an unprecedented amount of individual time and energy'. In the near future mail will not work till he is an adult. He will marry much later and have a small successful family, then live a score of years maybe before he exhibits any of the characteristics of decadence of age. The oculist, dentist and surgeon will perform the necessary roadside repairs. Wells affirms that adults’ vigor can lie restored, and can be kept uj> until at least the end of life. Prolongation will not be allowed to ifeme in the privilege of a small class. There will be only active hopeful children, and though many people will be full of years none will be aged. It will be a community of grown-up people to an extent quite beyond our present community.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
