WAIROA RACING CLUB

ACCEPTANCES CLOSE TO-NIGHT

At 8 o’clock this evening acceptances close with the secretary, Mr. Leonard Storey, for the first day of the Wairoa Racing Club’s annual meeting, to be held on January 18 and 20. Much interest is being evinced in the meeting, and from present appearances it is anticipated the acceptances will establish a record. Te Kupenga course has been much improved of. late, and is now; looking at its best. The new grandstand .will be used for the first time, so that between 400 and 500 patrons will now bo able to view the races with every comfort. ' The grandstand also includes the usual offices and a spacious dining-room. Large fields are expected throughout the meeting, as a large number of visiting horses have been nominated, including 27 from Gisborne and 20 from Napier.

POVERTY BAY TROTTING CLUB; NOMINATIONS FOR ANNUAL MEETING From the very large nominations received last evening the meeting ing of the Poverty Bay Trotting Club to be held on the Park racecourse on Saturday, Jan. 29, the fixture being set down for the first time in January instead of July, promises to be the most successful in every way. The club, headed the energetic president, Mr F. lolerton, the ‘ vice-president, Mr R. C. Fisken, and the secretary, Mr 1. E. Dodd, has gone to considerable trouble to cater for the outside owners. Arrangements have been made for the Gunbar to carry horses from north and south and unload at the-wharf, thus doing away with the inconvenience of transhipping in the harbor. To all visiting owners not securing any place money at the meeting the Club will pay boat fare for horses one way only. With these inducements, Coupled with a suitable date and good stake money it is little wonder that outside owners have nominated in full force, stables in Auckland, Hastings, Napier, Pahiatua, Carterton and Hawera being amongst those represented. Altogether, no fewer than 41 outside horses are nominated, and it is anticipated that given fine weather, the meeting will be an outstanding success.
