GOED BY BULL
FARMER'S TERRIFYING EX-
PEKIENCE
NARROW ESCAPE FROM SERIOUS INJURY.
PAHIAT UA, Jan. 11. Mr James Brown, 77, residing with his son, Mr G. H. Brown, in Palliatua, had a. terrifying experience on Sunday morning when driving a Jersey bull through a gate in a paddock. The animal turned and knocked Mr James Brown down against a wire netting fence, where the victim was effectively pinned. The hull commenced to gore Mr Brown, who had the presence of mind to clutch the chain hanging from the animal’s nose, jerking it fiercely at each rush and thus deflecting the force of the blows. Mr Brown hung tenaciously to the chain for several minutes till his son came on the scene and beat the animal off, though not before it had turned its attention to the newcomer. Mr Brown, senr., suffered laceration of the arms and legs, as well as bruises covering the whole of his body. One of the bull’s horns passed through the palm of the hand and pierced a hole behind his ear.—P.A.
