STORE AND CHEMIST SHOP DESTROYED

SYDNEY, Jan. 11

A fire at Dorrigo destroyed a general store and chemist’s shop, the damage being estimated at £20,000. At one stage when it looked as if a whole block of shops would be destroyed, the crowd smashed plate glass windows and removed the contents to safety, causing further heavy damage.—U.P.A.

FARMHOUSE DESTROYED HAMILTON, Jan. 11. A farmhouse at Walton, owned and occupied by J- Nicholson, was completely destroyed by fire yesterday. Nothing was saved. Mr and Mrs Nicholson and their baby escaped in their night attire. Mr Nicholson was awakened by the cattle bellowing in an adjoining paddock and found the rear portion of the building in flames. The house was insured, but there was no insurance on the contents. -—P.A.
