HEAVY TRAFFIC
COLLECTION OF FEES BY LOCAL BODIES.
Heavy traffic fees and the best way to collect them was a question which came up at a meeting of the Borough Council last evening. The Cook County Council wrote acknowledging receipt of a communication from the Borough Council and stated every effort was being made to get mileage returns from lorry drivers to whom licences had been issued from the County office. The division of the 1926 fees was held up pending an’inspection of the figures by the resident engineer. ,Un the same question the Lava County Council advised that it was not in accord with the system of collection in vogue last year, except on the certificate of the resident Engineer that he approved of all maintenance charges, which, so far, have not been checked. In regard to the fees for the current year it was laid down by the regulations that they were to be collected on the user basis. The AA T aiapu County Council advised that it had been left in the hands of their chairman to arrange a conference of local bodies on the question. The AA'aikohu County Council advised that Crs. Al. Doyle and A. A. Fraser had been appointed as delegates to a conference on the question. The communications were all received, the Mayor stating that the Borough would fall into line with the other local bodies.
