ANOTHER 10,000 OUNCES IN SYDNEY

SHIPMENTS SINCE AUGUST TOTAL £102,000

SYDNEY, Jan. 11. Another IO.OOOoz of gold from the New Guinea fields arrived by steamer yesterday, and was valued at over £25,000. This makes 41,0000 z., estimated to he valued at £102,000, which has reached Sydney since tlie shipments began in August last. Among those returning were over a dozen disappointed miners, who were unable to get inland from. the coast, owing to want of funds, the difficulties of the route, or having been driven from the fields by hardships. According to other mining men who have come southward in connection with the settlement of disputed claims tho flotation of further areas, and other matters connected with the fields, all the good ground in tho Eddi© Creek area has tfcen taken up. They, however, have given glowing accounts of new extensive finds at Watut, two days’ march nortli-west of Edie Creek. They state that the gold there, is worth £ 17s 6d an ounce compared with £2 10s for Edie Creek metal. The climate at the new field is described as temperate. There are good food and Labor conditions, accessibility is easier, and living and working conditions altogether better.—U.P.A.,
