QUEEN DISCUSSES MATIMMQNV
TWO’ AMUSING INCIDENTS.
Two amusing incidents occurred recently when the King and Queen were visiting some of their old servants in the cottages round Balmoral (Scotland) (according to the London “Daily News”). The Queen called on an old couple who have spent a lifetime in the Royal service and have now retired to a cosy cottage. Turning with a smile to the aged housewife, the Queen said: “And there is no word yet of a husband for V ?” mentioning the name of a daughter who was still at home. “Does nobody want to take her a wav from you?”
“3 ha’ve heard o’ nane. Your Majesty” said the old woman. Then in a confidential whisper she added: “It there ony word o’ a wife to the Prince of "Wales vet?”
The Queen laughingly replied there was not.
The King one evening called on a young couple—members of a family which" had served three generations of Royalty. Since the King’s last visit to Deesidc a son and heir had arrived at the cottage, and the King, after congratulating the mother, expressed a wish to see the babv. The mother blushingly explained that the little one was not quite arrayed to receive visiters, having just been placed in its cct for the night. “Never mind,” said the King, “just let me see the baby.” And so, in its night attire. His Majesty the -babv Was presented to His Majostv the King, and they both seemed delighted to meet one another.
