COOL BURGLARS
HAVE MEAL OF BACON AND EGGS
WILL WRECK SHOW NEXT TIME IF MONEY MISSING.
(Special to the Times) AUCKLAND, Jan. 12. Burglars who entered a fruit shop
jit Parnell last night, cooked them--selves a meal of bacon and eggs, set a table in the back room, and enjoyed their repast in comfort. The cash register was empty, but the thieves helped themselves to some goods in
the shop. Entrance was apparently gained through a back window leading to the living quarters, which are only used by tenants during the day. The intruders made their way to the shop, but finding the till empty, returned to the living room, where they discovered eggs and bacon in a cupboard. These they cooked on a gas stove, as was shown by the discovery of a soiled frying pan. this morning. The tablecloth which had been placed ready to be sent to the laundry was found on the table when the tenants arrived to open the shop. This was covered . with cutlery and chinaware, while from the remains of the food lying about it was plain that two diiier.s had enjoyed a hearty meal. On the table was a note addressed to the shopkeeper stating that if no ' money were found on the premises on -4-tlio occasion of their next visit, the burglars would “wreck the show.” About a dozen boxes of chocolates are missing, in addition to bottles oi soft drinks, a box of strawberries and a quantity of fruit.
