PRE-DAWES BALANCES WOUND UP.

The British Treasury handed Sir Joseph Cook a cheque for £912,006' for reparations. The cheque represents 4.35 per cent share of the accumulation of £18.000,000 British collection of 26 per cent, of the Customs duty on German goods during the period preceding the Dawes plan. Canada receives a similar sum and New Zealand £310,000. This virtually winds up the pre-Dawes balances. Henceforth the Dominions will draw a share of tlxe Empire's quota of the. ordinary Dawes payments front which the Empire in December received £923,250.—A.N.Z.C.A.
