DANGEROUS DRIVER

NO LICENSE FOR TWELVE

A charge of driving a motor-car in a manner dangerous to the public was preferred against a young Maori, Joseph Hoera, before . Mr. E, C. Levvey, S.M.*, at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Defendant pleaded guilty. Sergt. Dempsey said defendant had p assed another car on the Mat aw hero road travelling about thirty miles an hour, and had zig-zagged into ".lie ditch. Helped out of that i,e had next hit a trap driven by a Maori. Defendant had no license, but had applied at the Waikohu County Council offices and had been told to call again, when the officer wou'J have time to examine him.

In • convicting defendant and ordering him to pay costs, the Magistrate ordered that he he considered unfit to drive a car for twelve months.

DRUNKEN MOTORIST SENT TO GAOL (FOR SEVEN DAYS.

CHINESE GAMBLERS FINED

Following a raid on December 22 two Chinese were convicted to-day of. keeping a common gaming house in Taranaki street. They were each fined £SO, having been heavily fined previously, in default three months’ gaol. Another Chinaman similarly charged in regard to premises in Haining street was fined £lO.

THEFT OF CLUB FUNDS

WELLINGTON, Jan. 12

Charged with the theft of sums totalling £75 3s 6d belonging to the Upper Hutt Tennis Club, of which lie was treasurer for some years, William Joseph Pyrtle Howe, 35, a carpenter, pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for. sentence. —P.A. ALLEGED DRUNKENNESS. Charged with helpless drunkenness John Kenny appeared before Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., yesterday. Sergt. Dempsey said that defendant had surrendered himself on January 4 after -a drinking bout. ’Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
