AMATEUR ATHLETICS, SATURDAY'S SPORTS MEETING. RANDOLPH ROSE-AND ‘ FATTY'’ LAMB TO COMPETE. An-athletic: attraction never before excelled in Poverty Bay will be the appearance of R. \V. (Fatty) Lamb, cl Australia,, the world's champion cyclist, and Randolph Rose, of Masterton,. the greatest distance runner in the British Empire. Both these famous athletes will appear at the sports meeting to be held at the Oval on Saturday next, under the auspices of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club.

In R. W. (Fatty) Lamb spectators will witness in action tho greatest cyclist who has ever been produced in Australia. Equally at home on the track or road, lie has attained the incredible speed of 65 miles per hour in a motor-paced ride. Lamb lias von every important race in -Australia, and will be one of that country’s principal representatives at the Olympic Games. Randolph Rose is the best known athlete hi New Zealand, and is the holder of the world’s grass-track record for the mile run, which ho covered in 4min. 13 3-ssec„ defeating the present champion of America, Lloyd Halm. The great Masterton runner is in wonderful form, and has Informed officials of the amateur club that he expects to do sensational times on the specially prepared Oval track. • Another star attraction of the meeting will he an attempt on the New Zealand ladies’ record by Miss Nancye Eastwood, the greatest lady sprinter in Australasia. Like Rose and LTamb, Miss Eastwood is a candidate for Olympic honors, and is at present running faster than when she made her record-breaking run at AYellington. In races against sprinters, Fatty Lamb has never been beaten, and has expressed a desire to complete against Owen Paltridge, Poverty Bay’s crack runner, over 100 yards. Great interest' should be evinced in this novel contest which will conclude Lamb’s appearance in Gisborne.

The splendid entries received should assure spectators of a thrilling afternoon’s sport, and it is anticipated that a record crowd will view the two champions in action. Mr. A. C. TO-NIGHT’S MEETING FATTY LAMB TO ATTEND In .preparation for Saturday’s sports carnival the evening meeting of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club will bo held at the Oval at 5.15 this afternoon. R, W. (Fatty) Lamb the world’s champion cyclist will be present and at the conclusion of the meeting may indulge in a practice spin. The events to be run off are the 75 yards men’s and ladies’ handicaps, and a quarter mile cycle handicap. It is anticipated that fast times will be recorded on the specially prepared track. Advice has been received by the secretary of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club that Randolph Rose the famous distance runner will arrive in Gisborne tomorrow afternoon, and will be a competitor at. the sports meeting to be held at the Oval on Saturday next.
