Cured by Spahlinger

BUT SPURNED BY WIFE

MAN FROM PARKES. SYDNEY, Dec 10. The story of a consumptive who was cured by Spahlinger, hut 'whose wife refused to live with jr/fi, was told before Mr. Justice Owen in the Divorce Court to-day. Harold Walter Lowe, a ladwtfy fireman, of Parkes, petitioned for a decree for the restitution of cinjugal rights against Amelia Lowe (formerly Davis) to whom he uas married on May 16, 1917. Lowe said that in .’922 lie manifested symptoms of consumption, and, with the consent of his wife, went into a sanatorium. Whenever his condition improved sufficiently he would visit his wife and family at Parkes, and till 1923 was kindly received.

During that year there was a marked change in his wife’s attitude. After he had returned to Parkes from Springwood, she told him he would have to leave. She gave him no reason. CONSULTED 1 S PAHLINGEII. “I-then left Parkes,’’ added the petitioner, “and determined that I would visit Switzerland. Here I consulted Dr. Spahlinger, and I am now a cured man. The consumption lias gone.” Lowe added that when I c returned to Australia in October, 1925, and went to Parkes, his wife oidored him out of the house. Lowe said that while he was in Switzerland he received one letter from his wife. This letter, written o» June 3, 1925, stated: “It is all very well for you tq go about boasting about your cure, hut you don’t think of the ruined lives and the little babies ‘ who come into the world to suffer for you. Don’t daiv to write to me again. I don’t wish to see you at all. Little Willie died six weeks ago, after six months’ suffering.”

. WIFE’S -FEARS. ' Matthew Leo Townsend, biother-in-law of the petitioner, said that'Mrs Lowe at Parltes had said to him, “1 will never live with Lowe again. One child is dead. I am afraid of consumption.” Mr. Justice Owen said that, if it were found-that Mr.s Lowe was fearful of contracting coni iro.ption from Lowe, and was also fearful of the eon sequences to possible future children then lie might he justified in refusing Lowe a decree 'of restitution of conjugal rights. : , Mr. Webb: Lowe js now cured. Mr. Justice Owen said be must accept the evidence that Loire 1 as been cured, but lie felt sure flat Mrs. Lowe was anxious to sunder the marriage tie, and that was the reason she”had not appeared to d Tend the suit. In the circrnn-'fauces lie must grant Lowe a restitution decree.
