Muir are in occupation of their beach cottage at AYainui. Miss 0. Williams is at present their guest. * * * Mr W. G. Garter, of the Public Works Department, at Waikaremoana, accompanied by Mrs Carter, is on a visit to Mr and Mrs H. A. Jensen, of * * * Mrs H. L. Taylor, formerly of Gisborne, and now of Palmerston North, is on a two months’ visit to Gisborne and is at present the guest of Mrs G. A. C. Ashbey, of Score Road, Kaiti. * * • Mr Gervan McMillan, of the Otago University, is at present on a visit to Gisborne and is a guest of Mr and Mrs W. S'. Black, of ‘'Elston,” RutenC Road. * * * The friends of Mrs I’. A. Johnson will be pleased to hear that she is making progress after her recent serious operation at Sister Brewer’s private hospital. A MUSICAL EVENING. Last AVednesday several special guests gathered at “Berwyn,” the residence of Mr and Mrs Geo. Smith, and enjoyed an excellently rendered programme of vocal and musical items contributed by Miss M. Smith (pianiste) and Mr David Clark. (baritone singer.) The former, who has been studying in Wellington for some years, charmingly rendered several of Chopin’s pianoforte compositions, Farjeon’s “Swan Song,” and selections of Russian music. The latter was in good voice, and his full-toned deep baritone was heard to fine effect in “Daddy Boy,” “King Charles.” “Three Score and Ten,” and other selections of a high class nature. The programme was much appreciated by those attending and at its conclusion, a delicious table supper was partaken, of in the dining-room, where blushrose, and pink carnations were utilised in the adornment of the festive hoard. During supper the host delivered a short speech interspersed with humorous anecdotes.
The hostess was gowned in black and white charmeuse made witli.iumner effect. Miss Smith wore rose du bois crepe de chine fashioned on simple linjes with apron effect. Mrs Roach was becomingly gowned in black satin marocain. Airs C. E. Armstrong wore a graceful model frock of floral crepe de chine. Among others present were: Messrs C. E. Armstrong, F. W. Riach, A. E. Soale. AA hitehead, D. Clarke, and Smith. The evening was one cf a series planned to eventuate during the coming months.
