Following the release of numerous slaves in Hykuiong ALalley, Southern Shan States, Northern Burma, last year, the Burma Governmfnt informed Kachin hills chiefs that slavery in their territory must cease. Compensation will lie paid. It is estimated that 5000 slaves will receive their freedom as the result of the efforts of the British administration.
