HOUSE WRECKED
BY TERRIFIC EXPLOSION. BELIEVER REE TO STORED BLASTING POWDER. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 13. A terrific explosion which shook the whole neighborhood occurred- at the home of E. A. Emmett, carrier, 36 Francis Street, Burwood, at 1.39 o’clock this morning. Ihe back portion of the house was wrecked and the family had a narrow escape, but no one was injured. The explosion is thought to have been due to blasting powder Emmett had stored in preserving jars.—P-A.
