HOUSE TWICE ABLAZE IN 24 hours
BLENHEIM, Jan. 14; A tliree-roomed house in Nelson street was twice the subject of a. call to the fire brigade within 24 hours. The building was owned by Et Godfrey and occupied by. M. Phillips. On the second occasion the place was virtually destroyed. The second outbreak occurred in a different part of the dwelling, which on the first occasion was well saturated with water. — P.A.
JOY-RIDERS’ OAR ABLAZE. AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. A two-seater car .which was unlawfully removed from Symonds Street about 9.30 o’clock'last night was found an hour later in flames on the eastern side of the Orakei Basin, it had run off the road, but no trace of the occupants was found. Fire in McGruer’s drapery- establishment, Mawhera Quay, at 9 p.m. rutted the building, destroying stock worth about £12,000, while the budding, owned by Mr M eKay, Clmstchurch, was worth about £6OOO. Several surounding buildings, such as the National Bank, Ashby, Bergh and Co and Harker’s bakery, had a narrow escape, the location of the being the centre of the block. -‘■be insurances arc not yet available.I\A.
