ANGRY MINERS
POLICE ALLEGED TO BE ACTING AS SPIES. SPECIAL CONSTABLES SWORN IN MELBOURNE, Jan. 14. Serious trouble at Marranbov tinfields, Northern Territory, is reported. It is understood that the cause of the trouble was the closing down of a battery at Marranboy, where the miners allege the police engaged in espionage. , 1 A meeting of miners demanded the withdrawal of a constable from the field, and passed a number of other motions, which the authorities regax d as being of so serious a nature that special constables have been sworn 11 Messages received in Melbourne stato that the Warden notified representatives of the citizens meeting that the Riot Act would be read unless the resolutions passed at the meeting were withdrawn.
