NAPIER WOOL SALE
PRICES BETTER THAN DECEMBER . HALFBREDS INCREASE ONE PENNY. CROSS HERDS THREE-FARTH-INGS UP. NAPIER, Jan. 18. The keen competition .which characterised the opening of the third Napier wool sale last night, was maintained throughout the remainder of the sale to-day, and 90 per cent, of the catalogue of 30,000 bales was sold under the hammer at prices generaiS 1 • in advance of rates ruling at the ecember sale.
Merino and Southdown both showed some improvement. Haifbrcd increased, on an average by one penny. Crossbred were up about threefarthings. Lambs were a half-penny dearer.
Pieces and bellies showed decline on the somewhat extreme prices ri ling in December. The range of prices is as follows: Merino.—Average, up to 20d. Southdown.—Average, 16d to 17Id, inferior 133 d to 15d. Fine half-bred, 56/58. —Average, up to 173 d. Medium half-bred, 50/56’s. —Super 16£d to 173 d, average, up to 153 d. Coarse half-bred, 48/50’s.—-Super 15Jd to 17d, average 13|d to 15d, inferior lid to 13d.
Fine crossbreds, 46/48’s. —<Super 14d to 15!d. average 12d to 133 d, inferior 10R1 to llgd. Medium crossbred, 44/46’s. —Super 13d to 14-Jd, average, lid to 12-)d, inferior 9|d to 103 d. dePELICHET, MoLEOD AND CO.’S REPORT. (Special to the Times.) NAPIER, Jan. 18. deFelichet, McLeod and Go., Ltd., report having held their third wool sale yesterday, when they subnu'tei a catalogue of 3764 bales, of which 1332 bales came from Gisborne. There was a large attendance of buyers and spirited competition. Prices for fine super Romney and Lincoln wools were showing an advance in value ot Id to per lb. Other, descriptions of long wools advanced ljd to l£dt Super pieces and necks were not equal to values at the last sale, but other pieces and bellies were on a par with last sale. Lambs of superior quality showed an advance of 3d to Id pel lb. Opr best selling br.and was Alotere, a well-grown wool, showing no -signs of the recent drought, like so many other clips.
