Many letters of protest have been published, but the general opinion is that the Eraden’s action was,fully justified. It is now stated that the police did not request the use of the hose, but admit that the crowd was unmanageable.

POLICE,

The Commander of the Einden, in an interview, expresses great regret but states it was the only way to prevent a terrible tragedy. He acknowledges the extremely cordial reception in Capetown, which was without a single instance of unpleasantness.—A.and N.Z.C'.A.
