WAIROA SHOW
TWENTY-EIGHTH ANNUAL , ‘FIXTURE. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION Fine weather, a large attendance, and most creditable outlies favored.'- the twenty-eighth annual Show held at Wairoa yesterday under the auspices of the Wairoa A. and B. Society. Particularly nouceable was the large attendance of country and outside visitors, many being present from Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay. Set in a fine level stretch of flat, dotted here and there with trees givinb much-welcomed shelter to stalls nd stock pens, the grounds were indeed ideally suited tor the purpose. Several trade exhibits were staged, motor car importers from Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay being particularly prominent. Entries in practically every event compared favorably with previous years and indeed many of the exhibits would stand competition in the larger centres. Better quality exhibits could have been found in some of the stock pons, but the industrial sections, on the other hand, were most creditable. One of the features of the Show was the large number of entries in the dog section. Practically a new class with the Society, the entries, for quality and quantity, were distinctly gratifying to the officials and compared most favorably wth a similar exhitt to be found anywhere. Several Napier and Gisborne owners had dogs showing in the section. Large entres were received for the horse sections and some fine animals were exhibited, the pony classes especially being worthy of commendation. The animals brought forward for the competitions were also of a high standard and in one or two of these events the trophies were lifted by Gisborne competitors. The industrial sections were well paronised considering the time of the year and keen compettion was evinced in many classes. Though primarily an Agricultural and Pastoral Show the stock exhibits were not a, feature. There were certainly a fair number of entries hut the quality of the .majority of the animals was not as good as could he expected from such a fertile district as Wairoa. Many of the exhibits were merely fair sorts of station lots, •"he daily section especially could have been lfetter patronised. Judged from every angle, however, the fixture from the point of view of a country show was a distinct success and, undoubtedly, no small meed of praise is due to the energetic secretary, Mr Hugh Lyall. The results of the various sections are as follows, the number of entries being given in parentheses:— DOGS Judge: Mr Smith, Opotiki. Ro-vth-haired working collie dog or hitch (16): E. J.
