MEETING OF THE BOARD

The Cook Hospital Board’s monthly meeting, which was held yesterday, was attended by the chairman, Mr W. G. Sherratt, Mrs A. Scott, and Messrs I). W. Coleman, W. \\ . Shanks, M. T. Trnfford, J. E. Benson, TI. H. DeCosta. H. J. F. Tombleson, G. B. Oman, W. J. MeCliskie, and H. Kcnway.

The Hospital Boards’ Association executive wrote recommending that the remuneration of medical men conducting nurses’ examinations or lectures should be £3 3s and £1 Is respectively. It was explained that no outside practitioners gave lectures or conducted examinations at the hospital.—The letter was received. A letter was received from the Director-General of Health explaining that medical superintendents of the sanatoria had complained of the delay which occurred between the hospital boards and the sending of patients to the institutions and he urged that Boards should send patients to the sanatoria as early as possible after notifications to the Board of vacancies.

The chairman: As far as this hospital is concerned the patients are sent as soon as_ possible. Possibly there are some boards ohending in this respect, hut this hospital is not. Accounts amounting to £3233 17s 7d as approved by the Finance Committee, were passed for payment. The reports of the District Nurses were as follows: Nurse J. S. Park, Matawai, attended and advised cases during the month; Nurse K. Turner, Te Ivaraka, attended and advised 31 cases during the month and visited four Maori pas.—The reports were adopted. The report of the treasurer for tlie month of December showed that the receipts amounted to £BIBO ( 19s and the expenditure totalled £3322 13s lOd. The debit balance at the bank on December 1 was £3082- 2s 9d but at December 31, the Board was £1843 10s 8d in credit. ( After accounts amounting to £3233 17s 7t! were passed for vpayment yesterday the Board had a credit balance of £723 4s 7d. Fees charged at the lies pital in December amounted to £L>:-3 9s. —The report was adopted. Four men Averc admitted to, two women were discharged from and one death occurred at the Memorial Home during December, leaving 41 mm and six women in the institut j*i or. January 4. Gifts were receive 1 and acknowledged with thanks Tom. Mesdames Willock, D. Blair, C. Williams, aiid L. Minnis, and Messrs Kirkpatrick, W. Keenan, TomfcJeson, and anonymous, magazines and Weekv Presses; W. G. Sherratt, pot plants; Mrs H. DeCosta, playing cards; Mrs H. Cato, clothes,, Anonymous, clothes, etc.; Messrs Gold smith and Gough, pork pies. Visits were made by Rev. CrawshaAv, aa'lio gave a lantern lecture and members of the Wesleyan choir, who gave a concert. The Salvation Army Band, also Baptist, Weslevan, ancl Presbyterian Christian Endeavour Societies made their monthly visits.—The report was adopted.

The Dairy Farm working account for December showed that the receipts amounted to £135 14s 6d and the expenditure totalled £93 Is sd, the excess of receipts over expenditure amounting to £43 13s Id.—lhc report was adopted. The supervising engineer reported that the repairs to the plaster work had been completed in wards 4 and o. The tar had been removed from the surface of the ramps on wards 1 and 2 and replaced with concrete, and .the others would be don© as soon as possible. The pumping engine at the well or the Memorial Home had been overhau’ed. The main steriliser _ioi the theatre had been altered and improved. A cistern had been renewed in ward 4. Various repairs had been made about the buildings and fittings and the sanitary, steam and water services had been repaired where necesssary. The coal consumption for the month was: December 24 tons 19 cwt., costing £99 16s; November 24 tons 13cwt., costing £9B 14s; October 25 tons 16cwt., costing £lO3 65. —The report was adopted. There were three patients admitted and two- discharged from the Tolaga Bav Hospital during Decem’ter. in addition to which five outpatients were treated, and one birth had occurred. The following gifts for Xmas were acknowledged with thanks: Mr Harries, quarter lamb, Mrs Jolly, butter. Gisborne Sheepfarmers, sweets. —The report was adopted. The visiting comittee reported that everything was satisfactory at the Memorial Home and at the Hospital with the exception that the lavatories \ wards 1 and 2 need attention, also 6'e plastering and the floor in the kitchen and corridor in. Nurses’ Home.—The report was adopted.
