IT) PR-YEAR-OLD BOY DROWNED FATALITY ~AT M URIWAI. No one noticed little four-year-olcl ,'jtunes Desmond McCabe as lie slipped into the river at Muriwai on Thursday. His brothers, aged-seveu years and 12 years, had left him playing on the bank when they went for a 'swim in an adjacent hole and, •coming out of the water, they thought the little chap had gone up to the house. It was only after playitxr in a nearby paddock, for a while that they became uneasy and made a search! The lad’s body was found in the water, caught up in a snag. _ The fatality occurred on Mr. R. K. Murphy’s Muriwai property, where Mr. aiicl Mrs. McCabe occupy a cottage near to the river. j)r. Williams examined the body, and an inquest will be held before the District Coroner, Mr. E. C. Lovvov, S.M. STR IDE BY" NARCOTIC POISON. AUCKLAND, Jan. 20. An inquest was held to-day into the death of Len Barnard (26), contractor of Island Bay, 'Wellington. Deceased was found on Milford beach ■on the morning of "Wednesday, January 12, in an unconscious condition, and after being attended by two doc- . tors was removed to the Auckland hospital, where he died a day or two later. A body has been washed ashore on Wailieke Island. It is believed to be Harold Tidd, who was lust- from a pleasure boat off Motuihi Island on January 8. Tidd had stripped when the boat capsized and the body was found unclothed. —-P-A. TOY’S DEATH AFTER BURNS WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. Admitted to hospital on Monday suffering from burns sustained when a paper fancy dress which h© was wearing caught alight, Douglas Grant, aged 71 years, died at four o'clock this morning. The boy was in a, critical condition at the time of admission to the institution.
