BREACH NOT YET HEALED
LLOYD GEORGE TO HAND OVER MONEY FOR ELECTION.
(United Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received Jan. 20, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 20. Mr Lloyd George's efforts to secure the reunion of the two sections of Liberalism are not proceeding smootlily. In consequence of comments that Mr Lloyd George attended a meeting of the National-Liberal Federation and promised to hand over such capital sum as would enable the full Liberal fighting line to bo put forward at the next election, and also cover tho whole of the expenses of the administration of the Liberal headquarters. The committee of the F©deration then passed a’motion by sixteen votes to twelve asking Mr Vivian Phillips, who is Mr. Asquith’s nominee, to resign the chairmanship of the organisation committee.
The Morning Post, commenting on the meeting, says Mr Lloyd George no longer claims that his offer is unconditional, as he says he trusts to the honor of the committee to appoint a neutral committee, nor is the grant made in perpetuity, but only until three months after the next general election.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
OFFER OF £30,000 FOR ELECTION
FUND. ANNUAL GRANT OF £40,000 FOR CAMPAIGNS. (Received Jail. 20, 11.25 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 19. It is understood Mr. Lloyd George lias offered £30,000 for the general election fund, enabling all seats to be contested, plus £40,000 annually for campaign purposes.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
